Our favorite NYC bakeries
We drive one bakery’s bread in from Connecticut. These ones are already here, open while you’re reading this, and getting up considerably earlier than we do. Nobody pays to be on this page and none of them have anything to do with Bread Drop — but we think they’re the pick of the crop!
Bourke Street Bakery
Started on Bourke Street in Sydney by two chefs who taught themselves to bake, and opened in NoMad in May 2019 — the first one outside Australia. Sourdough, pastries, and the sausage roll that ruined every other sausage roll.
Tall Poppy
Nina practised law in Australia for a decade, then left it to bake full time. The croissants are what the queue is for. The name is about as Australian as a name gets.
Missed one? Tell us at the next drop and we’ll add it. Especially outside Manhattan — that is where the list is thinnest.
